He currently serves as a Director for the Monmouth-Ocean Educational Services Commission, primarily overseeing New Jersey Virtual School, a statewide professional development initiative, and a high-impact GED program serving incarcerated individuals at Monmouth County Jail.

As a consultant, speaker, and writer, Derek strives to cut through the noise, helping educators navigate change with clarity and purpose, with a focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence, educational technology, and school culture.
